i blew the headgasket on the I30 a couple of weeks ago, i was being stupid when shifting and looked back it moved my hand slightly over to the right, just enough to miss 4th and go into 2nd, the good thing is i was short shifting so it only revved to 73-74, the valvetrain can only support with 75, but that was enough to blow that headgasket.

its been driving fine, since then and still is but obviously that head gasket needs to be replaced, so the motor is going to be pulled and we are going to take the thing apart, while the motor is out i want to do a couple of things, getting some valve springs out of the VQ35HR (+06 350Z) its the main weakness in my valve train, head studs from the HR and oil pump, with these done i will be able to rev to 7800rpm safely, big jump from the stock 6500 limiter. But the main thing i will be looking foward too is cams, coming out of a u guessed it. A friend of mine said he has some Nismo R-tunes that he doesnt want and will give them too me if he can find them, these are 262 deg. with a 10.9mm lift, big improvement from the wimpy stock 232 deg. with a 8.55mm lift.

So what is the big deal? Somebody had some VQ35 JWT S1 cams (which are slightly less aggressive then the R-tunes 260 deg, 11.3mm lift) and put them in a VQ30 and untuned made 247whp, when he finally tuned it he made 270 @7500rpm. so u can see where this is going, the car ran 12.5s full interior. To add on top he said there is still more power that he could get out of it if he had the money to continue fiddling with it. i will be perfectly happy with 250whp with those cams.

i still have one last breather mode to go which is the intake manifold so i cant just pop those cams in there and go tearing about making that power. But currently if the head gasket was not blown i would be making between 190-195whp with identical torque numbers, i have done the exhuast header back, its test pipe'd with an Apexi WS2 from there. Apparently due to some shady O2 sensors the car has been running rich and shooting out some pretty crazy flames, one time when my friend tried to race me in his truck he said a flame that was atleast a 1ft long shot out the exhuast.

Its not a done deal on the R-tunes but in the next week or 2 I will have a final answer on them, if i cant get them i will be using the stock cams out of a VQ35 which are 240 deg. with a 10mm lift, with those i will be looking at around 220-230whp once tuned which is more than enough for a DD

well plans changed drastically since i last talked about it, there is currently a VQ35 sitting in my basement, found it for $150. we are talking quicker than most 350Z, so we will see how this goes.

and rofl.gif @ granny shifting, that was pretty good

depends, on what u think of as slow, most of the Zs im coming across are pretty quick(running mid-low 13s easily), there is a lot of mis conceptions flying around about them. Like most of us will considered LSx powered F-bodies pretty quick right? Juan's 350Z put 2 cars on an F-body had, also put 2 cars on a bolt on SRT4 which was suppose to beat his car. Will's Z walked a TT 300ZX, he also managed to beat a 335i. Unless those cars are slow lol. It seems that VQ power'd cars are slow off the line, its usually once up top they start to shine.

The cars i am actually finding to be a little over rated are S2000, awesome cars when it comes down to cornering but jesus i thought the would be decently quick in a str8 line, my friends AP1 could barely just barely pull on my car with its issues.

i wouldnt call it fast but i wouldnt call that slow either, they seriously are not geared to get off the line, the Zs 1st and 2nd is almost identical to the 1st and 2nd on my car and i have the most difficult time launching that car i almost always get just loads of wheels spin, fun but the car moves no where fast.

Because once we get into "well what do u consider fast" usually ridiculous numbers come out and everybody sounds like they came out of FnF "U GOTTA HAVE A 10 SEC. CAR ZOMG." Remember Will? He had a boosted civic he could only get it to run 13.7 mainly due to traction issues His Z with traction issues ran faster times it was consistently low 13s, but did u know that Civic ran dead even with a C6 Z06, is a Z06 a slow car? Thats why i really cant go off of these 1/4 mile times. Alot of cars are just not geared to get off the line.
